The 85th birthday of counter-culture icon Wavy Gravy will be celebrated with “Love For Wavy,” a virtual concert featuring performances, stories, tributes and more. “Love For Wavy” spans May 14 – 16 and fans can receive a video link by signing up at the Seva Foundation’s website.
Known as Wavy Gravy, is an American entertainer and peace activist best known for his role at Woodstock, as well as for his hippie persona and countercultural beliefs. He has reported that his moniker was given to him by B.B. King at the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969.
Bob Weir and Wolf Bros, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Joan Baez and Bonnie Raitt & Jackson Browne are among those participating in “Love For Wavy.” Steve Earle, Chris Robinson, Ani DiFranco and Graham Nash are more who are contributing to the virtual celebration.
Proceeds from “Love For Wavy” will benefit the Seva Foundation and Camp Winnarainbow. The latter was established by Wavy Gravy in 1975. Seva is a global nonprofit eye care organization that works with local communities around the world to develop self-sustaining programs that preserve and restore sight.
